Laura Moe is an author, writing instructor and visual artist. She likes to say that she “survived” art collage and two graduate degrees. She spent most of her career in Ohio as a librarian and English teacher. Eventually she moved to Seattle where she writes and paints. In 2016 her book “Breakfast With Neruda” was named by the New York Public Library as one of the best books for teens.

These days she now explores her love of painting. There is no subject matter she shies away from, and her use of color is playful and can be very non-traditional. That williness to explore and to not take the rules of art too seriously can result in sometimes audacious compositions.
Laura does food still lifes, landscapes, portraits, nudes. If a specific painting challenge presents itself she dives in. Sometimes her painting focus is driven by a theme for a specific show she wants to enter, or a class she is taking, or a photograph of a family member she loves. She can be inspired by spring flowers, or her cat.

She states, “My taste in art is eclectic. For instance, I participate in the figure drawing open sessions here at ArtWorks, and then convert those drawings into paintings. Last month I was painting food still lifes, and one of those are in the current Graphite exhibit. So I’m always looking for new focuses for my art.”
Laura appreciates painting alongside other talented artists during the Open Studio days at Artworks. In addition to the current Deelish! group show, she is in the July “Seeing the Planet” at The Gallery at Graphite. Laura will be exhibiting their work at Louvre Cafe in August, along with four other ArtWorks artists. You can see her art at https://www.lauramoebooks.com.
