Painting classes at ArtWorks are fun and energizing, and are for people of all experience levels.

Current Painting Classes

Alla Prima Oil Painting

Learn how to paint from life in a realistic yet expressive way using an alla prima approach.

Dates: Fridays (ongoing)
Times: 6:00 to 9:30 pm
Cost: $85 for a single session. $300 for four sessions
Materials Fee: No fee
Minimum Students: 2
Maximum Students: 15
Prerequisite: All levels welcome (drawing experience recommended)

In this class, we will focus on how to paint realistically yet loosely, striking a dynamic balance between accuracy and expression. We will paint from life (you can choose to paint from a live model or from still-life set-ups) as we explore the intimate connection between value and color and the dynamics of color relativity in creating a life-like image.

Plein Air Landscape Painting

Plein air landscape oil painting class in Edmonds and surroundings

Dates: July 10, 24, 31, and August 7 (no class on 7/17)
Times: 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
Cost: $100 for a single session. $350 for four sessions
Materials Fee: No fee
Minimum Students: 3
Maximum Students: 15
Prerequisite: Some drawing and painting experience recommended, but not required

We will meet at select locations in and around Edmonds to paint the landscape outdoors (en plein air), working directly from observation. Each session includes demonstrations, guided instruction, and individualized feedback. Topics include composition, value organization, color relationships, and efficient decision-making outdoors. Open to all levels, with some drawing or painting experience recommended.
